I used the maternity services both during my pregnancy (where very observant doctors discovered I had a blood clot in my lung) and during/after the birth of our daughter. I cannot praise the staff enough, from health care assistants to consultants to the anaesthetist team, everyone went beyond their duties to make me feel comfortable and reassure me. Thanks to the midwifes' experience and advice our daughter started to breast feed right away, and when in the first night after the C-section birth I was exhausted by constant feeding requests from the baby, a midwife came and settled her to sleep for me. Magic! I would recommend giving birth in Durham to every first time mum who is daunted by the prospect.
