"Myalgic Encephalomyelitis"

About: Centre for Integrative Care (formerly Glasgow Homeopathic Hospital)

(as the patient),

I have been under the care of the CIC for nearly ten years in respect of my Myalgic Encephalomyelitis and associated symptoms.

I have always been treated with respect in an environment that is relaxed and low threshold with peace and quiet at its' heart. The Centre is welcoming as soon as you come through the door and the staff, whether they are in direct contact with you as their client or not, are always engaging and helpful.

Although it is a two hour drive for us to get to the CIC, the homoeopathic remedies they have given me over the years have brought me to a stage where I can live a reasonable life and this is invaluable to me. My preference is always for an alternative route in comparison to mainstream pharmacology and my body has responded incredibly well to the remedies that I have been given. A managing of the different types of pain I undergo and the many varied symptoms means that I can engage with society far more than lying bed bound day after day, as I was at the start of my M.E. becoming severe.

I cannot express strongly enough that the CIC is an absolutely vital service which not only respects an individuals choice of care, but also treats each person as a unique individual. The listening skills of staff are excellent along with their holistic care approach and the explanation of the remedies and possible links between symptoms.

I would really like to see more staff of this calibre employed at the CIC and also more Centres across Scotland and the UK to give people a choice of care, rather than a forced oppressive 'care' that is witnessed in the mainstream NHS.

The basis of looking at clients/patients from a point of wellness rather than illness should be adopted across both the NHS and society as a whole. The wonderful aim the CIC has to keep you as well as possible and then build on this to make wellness your core and deal with illness as a pathway to more wellness through understanding and looking at all aspects is how care for everyone should be.

I cannot thank my GP who referred me enough, nor can I thank the two consultants I have been under over the past years enough for their incredible insight, help and care which they have provided for me that I simply would not (and did not) receive from the mainstream service of the NHS.

The CIC also aides those who cannot afford private care in these fields, the choice of what care and what types, which is essential.
