"HoLep for urinary flow."

About: Colchester General Hospital / Urology

Visited my GP in October for a flow reduction problem. Referred to the prostrate clinic where after an unsuccessful treatment with drugs I was further referred to Colchester Hospital and a doctor who advised me after examination that the best course was a HoLep and that this would eliminate my discomfort.

Phone call within a week to arrange a premed which although over an hour long was reassuring and carried out with great skill.

Six days later arrived at 06.30 for my operation. Lots of further tests. Visits by Consultant, Anaesthetist, other Urology doctors and nurses and a confirmation of first on the list. Unfortunately, not too be, another was more urgent. Followed a 7hr wait, good job I took a thick book.

Off to theatre. Lots of reassurance and comfort for this my first ever visit to hospital in 65years. Woke 4hrs later with a little discomfort and off to the ward.

Half hourly blood pressure and occasional blood tests kept me awake but the staff were very cheery and kind. Each time I started to doze awakened for another check.

Early morning visit from the Consultant who confirmed all had gone well followed by other Urology staff confirming same. More tests, catheter removal and three wees and I could go home by 6.30pm

To summary, I received some outstanding care and treatment for which I am extremely grateful and as a result not suffered any of the post operative problems sometimes associated with this surgery.
