"Mum feels totally confident in her decision"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Gynaecology

(as a carer),

I accompanied my 81 year old mum to an out patient appointment, she'd been thinking about a decision to have surgery or not. I attended as support for my mum.

The clinic staff, receptionist and nursing staff were warm and friendly. Dr Agur was terrific - beautifully person centred, professional and friendly care. He ensured that mum had the information she needed at her clinic appointment before Christmas and took time to discuss her decision and subsequent options with her today. No rush and no sense other than total focus on mum.

Mum feels totally confident in him and as a result in her decision. In her view she didn't think this care was available on the NHS - not that she's experienced private care! Well done folks.

If I could change anything - the complete lack of parking was quite distressing (more than I thought possible) especially as I'd taken the afternoon off work and driven through from Edinburgh for the appointment.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear EdinburghM,

Having an operation is always a big decision and I am so pleased to hear how well supported your mum was. Getting the time to explore the options is so important; it is a testament to Dr Agur and the team that your mum feels so confident about her decision. It is a real treat to hear how you were part of such a person centred consultation. This post was shared with Dr Agur and the team and they were delighted with your kind words, thank you.

I am so sorry, I can appreciate how stressful it must have been struggling to find a parking space on your arrival at Crosshouse. This has been dealt with over the years to address increasing hospital demand and building works. There remains pressure on parking at times and this has recently been raised with the appropriate management. Should there be an update on this issue, I will update you on this site. Thank you so much for using Care Opinion to share your mum's recent experience of care. I hope your journey back to Edinburgh was smooth and uneventful.

Best wishes,

Eunice
