"Assessment and treatment of an ambulance admission"

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital / Accident and emergency

My 25year old daughter was admitted via ambulance to RBH A and E at around 2.30pm on the 8th January suffering with a severe allergic reaction following the ingestion inadvertently of nuts. She had significant swelling around both eyes, profound rending of the skin generically and hives which were unbearably itchy.

From the arrival of the paramedics at her property to the moment she was discharged, the staff were exceplary in terms of intervention, attitude and professionalism. The paramedics reassured and treated. Taking time to ensure dosages and amounts were appropriate to the severity of my daughters allergic reaction.

Once at hospital, despite patients waiting on corridors my daughters appearance in terms of facial oedema, was respected and she was treated with dignity and moved into a cubicle in order that she felt more comfortable. Waiting time was appropriate and medical staff were unhurried and attentive despite being inundated with admissions.

With critical media reports at present, I was anxious at the prospect of a long wait and hurried assessment of my daughter but I can only congratulate the staff for their time, skills and unhurried reassurance. I request that this praise be offered to the unit.

The NHS is the jewel in the British crown and from my experience in my local A and E, this jewel continues to shine. Thank you to all staff concerned.
