"Ward 32 postnatal"

About: The Royal Victoria Infirmary / Maternity care

I was induced to have my baby 29th of september lots of complications and ended up going to theatre i could not fault the obstetrics team, however the aftercare on ward 32 was shocking. After losing 800mls of blood and in alot of pain they had no compassion. I used my buzzer for painkillers..i was in pain and upset due to the trauma i had been through to over hear the health care assistant say behind my back "well what does she expect" the most compassionate person there in the 3 days i spent there was the cleaner! You were basically left all day in your bed by staff. No emtional support even though they are fully aware of what you go through. I was offered one cup of tea a day which was the morning, staff made me feel like i was an annoyance so was reluctant to press my buzzer. I was unwell and needed a blood transfusion which i didnt get until dau 3...and no help with my baby even though i was a first time mam.

I will not use the rvi if i have another baby in the future due to the disgraceful after care if you have to stop in.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, we are very sorry to hear about your poor experience on the post-natal ward following your recent delivery at the RVI. The standard of care you describe falls significantly below that which we expect and is extremely disappointing to read. We would be very grateful if you could contact the Directorate Manager for Women’s Services so we can look in to the circumstances surrounding your stay with us thoroughly and provide you with more personal feedback: Email: Claire.pinder@nuth.nhs.uk Tel: 0191 2825669.

Alternatively you could contact our Patient Relations department who will be able coordinate an investigation on your behalf: Email: patient.relations@nuth.nhs.uk Tel: 0191 223 1382.
