"Poor procedures"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - City Campus / Maternity care

Frustrated, angry and upset are just a few feelings with have with the care and advice we were given at city hospital.

1st we had an attempt to talk us out of a induction even though waters had broke over 24 hours earlier by a consultant who didn't even examine my wife before trying to make us wait an extra 3-4 days. Told waters had not broke even though when eventually examined they had.

Our little boy was struggling to feed and my wife really wanted to breastfeed but after only having no more than 10ml of feed in the first 48 hours the staff should have done more to help with feeding, not let things run there course, tell us to express and to feed him on a 20ml 3 hourly feeding plan, the feeding was monitored until thursday night and then stopped even though I asked them to monitor this, we were sent home on day 4 with the same feeding plan.

Day 1 midwife visit highlighted he had lost over 14% of birth weight and were admitted to the QMC where we were told for his birth weight he should have been on at least 66 ml.

My wife was kept in city due to feeding issues yet they failed to weigh him before we left as apparently they don't need to until day 5, this is totally unacceptable as had the midwife of failed to turn up on Christmas Eve our sons health could have been placed at risk.

I would personally think twice about using the maternity services again.

I’m sorry to hear that the care your wife and newborn experienced at City Hospital fell below the standard we would expect and for the upset this has caused you and your family.

I’ll be sharing your story with my colleagues so we can learn from your experience and identify where we can make improvements for future patients.

I’d be happy to discuss your concerns in greater detail so we can investigate further if you wish us to. You can contact me on 0115 9691169 ext 63031.

Kind regards

Yvonne Reddish
