"Basel cell carcinoma removal"

About: Amersham Hospital / Dermatology

I had the experience of attending the dermatology unit at amersham on December 27th for the removal of a Basel cel carcinoma on my neck .

I first discovered this in August and got it confirmed by my G.P who referred me to Amersham . I had a ten week wait to see a consultant who confirmed my G.P's

diagnoses. Then another very long wait for the actual surgery.

Needless to say when the appointment did come through I got two appointments with two different surgeons for the same procedure !!

I rang the hospital to get it sorted and actually got the appointment brought forward by a month. Happy days .

I understand the department is busy but I do feel the system is very frustrating .

I feel the wait time could be cut down by half if your G.P has already diagnosed your condition.

In my case I have had surgery before for the same condition at amersham and didn't have to wait this long .

The carcinoma got larger with the wait and very sore and there is always that underlying risk that it could change character if left untreated.

I did have a very lovely and professional consultant who did the actual surgery.

This consultant was very easy to talk to and thorough.

The scar is four inches long with 13 stitches but very neat . So thank you doctor.

On the whole I feel the hospital is clean and professional but the biggest frustration is the appointment system...... this really needs to be looked at .
