"Communication"

About: Grantham & District Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I was referred to the local hospital by my GP for an wrist x-ray following an injury 10 days before which was not improving.

The service in x-ray was  prompt and efficient . I told my story had my x-ray and was told to wait in the waiting room. The radiographer then told me that the radiologist had reported a small fracture and that I therefore had to go to see A and E doctor.

I was signed in efficiently telling my story yet again and told to take a seat. I was triaged after about 5 minutes telling my story yet again and seen by a doctor within half an hour telling my story for the fourth time!!!!!!!!

So my issue is not with prompt efficient time process but with the constant re telling of my story and then was told no fracture go home take pain killers and see GP in two weeks. Leaving me confused and feeling that I had wasted precious time in A and E when if that was the case I could have just been referred back to GP.

Dear Fishie,

Thank you for your comments.

I am sorry that you felt it difficult to have to re-tell your story a number of times when you visited Grantham Hospital.

It is important that each of the healthcare professionals who are involved with patient care have full details, and it is best that the information comes directly from the patient.

There is always a possibility, due to the anxiety associated with a hospital visit, that in giving details initially the patient may overlook a detail that might be important to successful treatment. It is useful to get the patient to repeat information to ensure nothing has been overlooked.

If you are still concerned regarding your visit, and the outcome, I would ask you to contact our PALS team on 01476 464861 who will be able to assist you.

Thank you once again for your feedback.

Dear Fishie,

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback regarding the X-ray service at Grantham Hospital.

We are very pleased the X-ray service met your expectations and your experience was prompt and efficient.

Your referral to the A&E department followed a review of your X-ray by the Radiologist, and we would have every confidence in the accuracy of the report from this specialist.

However, without any personal details we are unable to investigate further, but would be happy to do so if you were to contact the X-ray Department Superintendent Radiographer.

In the meantime, we trust your recovery is going well and wish you the very best in the coming year.

Thank you for your comments.

Nigel Allen,

Radiology Services Manager
