"Thank you amazing Labour Ward xxx"

About: Pilgrim Hospital / Maternity

Amazing with lots of friendly smiles and great kindness. They take the time to listen to you and everything is done at your own pace and dignity is kept at all times. (My midwife that deliverd baby is haveing a seprate thank you) The Midwife looking after me before on the day shift had so much knowledge and experience it was quite reassuring.I felt in safe hands! I wish I could give her a hug and thank her!

After the delivery I stayed on labour ward for a while, the staff on labour ward are incredible! What else can I say! Outstanding! They brought us a try of sandwiches, hot drinks & biscuits! I remember being taken to M1 at 4am. I was met by how I can only describe as amazing. She was incredible! So lovely kind, knowledgeable clearly loved her job. I was quite surprised when my midwife introduced her self and said the other lady wasn’t trained staff ‘she just helps the midwifes’.I hope this staff member is recognised for her amazing care, lovely kind smile and positive attitude.Well the day staff were miserable! The Midwife barley cracked a smile and questioned me like I was a young child, Midwife raced round in a mad dash every time I went toilet. The Healthcare didn’t seem to want to do anything, I’ve never seen some one move at such a slow pace to get another baby sheet. What a depressing morning.Well that soon changed! An extremely lovely, genuinely kind, smiling face appeared. She introduced her self saying her name and job role and that she had just come on the ward and said would be here until 8pm. It was like a breath of fresh air. She introduced herself to every one in the room and I could hear her ask everyone if they had their call bell near, had water in the jugs and if they new where everything was on the ward and asked if they needed anything. She said hello to all our babies with such genuine excitement. She helped the lady opposite me a lot and was so gently and kind with the lady’s baby you could see she truly cared. When the lady had come back she said this midwife had given the baby a bath and was so lovely with her baby she made it a really special moment. When I went to the desk I heard some comments from the staff in a negative voice. I’m not to sure why as she clearly was working hard and so very lovely to all of us & our partners. Maybe give her support & extra training instead of standing there moaning. Its a shame when some staff are not supported and negative comments are said behind their backs. It wasn’t very professional. I felt quite bad for her as she was so lovely and hard working and staff just seemed to bark orders at her. She still stayed positive and had a kind smile for everyone. I've been home 8 weeks & thanks to the amazing team on Labour Ward we have a beautiful healthy baby! ..outstanding!

I am pleased to hear that you found your care on the labour ward to be outstanding and used the words incredible and amazing. It saddens me that you felt this experience did not continue with all members of staff on the maternity ward.

You describe a very mixed picture of staff attitude and professionalism and this is not acceptable or of the high standards every woman should expect to experience within maternity. Your thoughts and feelings will be shared with all staff members to ensure learning occurs.

If you would like to discuss your care further I would be more than happy for you to contact me.

Thank you for your feedback
