"Staff hygiene"

About: Kent & Canterbury Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

I was in Clarke Ward for operation recently.

I arrived in the ward at 10am, and there was a cleaner who obviously had a very bad cold and was blowing their nose, coughing and sneezing as they cleaned the ward. Surley this member of staff should not have been allowed to work in such a state. Now I am down with an awful cold which I did not have when I arrived.

At tea the following day,  sandwiches were served by member of staff who used the tongs to get the sandwiches from the containers. The other member of staff did not do that just got hold of the sandwiches with their hands, and  did not even have gloves on.

Not acceptable .

The hot food and breakfasts were very good.

Thank you for letting us know about the cleaner and the food preparation.

We will pass on your comment to SERCO the cleaning and catering contactors.

We are sorry you have been unwell and hope you are now recovering.

Kind regards.
