"Being in hospital after taking an overdose"

About: Tameside General Hospital

(as the patient),

I felt like I was wasting a bed because there were so many other people who deserved it more.

I had done something stupid, but realised that and was medically fine. However the staff were against me leaving until I had seen a psychiatrist and they knew I was okay. I discharged myself because I was okay and I believe it is better that the nurses spend their time helping those that really need it.

Firstly I was in the AMU ward and then I was moved to the HCU ward. Both of these wards had a number of elderly patients who needed a lot of help, such as helping with dressing, washing and using the toilet. The nurses didn't just do those tasks, but they showed so much caring and understanding to those people.

Those personal things of putting someone on the toilet and cleaning up after them is not something I and many others could do. I just think the nurses are amazing and I hope they're getting the respect and appreciation they deserve.
