"Cancelled Operation"

About: Salford Royal / Ear, Nose and Throat

(as the patient),

I broke my nose back in July 2016 and due to no appointments being available within 7 days to reset it I've had to be referred for surgery.

18 months on, I have had 3 consultations cancelled, 1  of which was due to staff annual leave and my operation date cancelled twice.  I'm now to wait another 4 weeks and as always it's still at risk of being cancelled again.

Whilst I appreciate it is based on clinical emergencies it is getting a little ridiculous now, especially when in theory I could have seen the exact same surgeon 6 months ago and had the operation, but only if I was willing to pay private fees.

I've gone 18 months of broken sleep, breathing restrictions and nosebleeds not to mention the inconvenience of having to ask family and friends to readjust their working arrangements to come pick me up and look after my child, only to cancel on them each time.

Thank you for taking the time to share with us your recent experience. I can only imagine how frustrating and difficult this must have been for you, please accept my apologies, I would like to assure you that this is not normal practice.

We try hard to provide the highest standard of care that is dignified, compassionate and person centered, however from the experience you have described this has not been the case.
