"I felt unable to speak freely with the doctor"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

I waited 12 weeks for an appointment with regard to an issue that had been ongoing for 6 months plus. At Crosshouse University Hospital clinic 4 I waited 1 hour and 45 minutes after my appointment time to be seen. I could hear clinic’s 1 and 2 apologising and giving explanations to patients with regard to how late the clinics were running. At the 1 hour waiting point I approached reception who couldn’t say how long it might be, no apology. After finally being called in to see the doctor, the nurse interrupted on 3 separate occasions, this appeared to be as a result of them leaving for the day, it was now after 5: 30pm. However dueto the nurse lingering, I felt unable to speak freely with the doctor. Incredibly poor patient experience and one which left me feeling I had wasted my time. Still no clear treatment plan in place.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear Lemons1987,

This is very disappointing to read and not what we want for our patients' to experience. I am so sorry that you haver waited so long and have come away feeling no further forward. It is policy to keep patients informed about delays and I am sorry this was not your experience. Without knowing more, and this is just a thought, I wonder if there may be tests or test results needed before there is some conclusion.

If you would like to contact me to discuss this further, I can be contacted on 01563 826222 or by email on eunice.goodwin@aapct.scot.nhs.uk, in the meantime I will pass this to the Ophthalmology service for their consideration.

Kind regards,

Eunice
