"Waiting time for cataract procedure"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

I was due a cataract op, under the 12 week guarantee which was up on at the beginning of October.  I phoned to be told the 12 weeks was now 24 weeks, as I am now into my 22nd week, I can take it I won't be done in the 24 week period either. How can the Scottish government and the hospital itself say they are doing a good job when there must be a lot of people in the same position as myself, I think the worst part is I have not had any letter or phone call since the letter telling me I would be done on or before the October date. I think there is something wrong with the NHS if they think this is acceptable,

Dear Teejay,

Thanks for taking the time to write about your frustrations waiting for cataract surgery. I am really sorry we have been unable to treat you within the 12 week target and that you have already had to wait nearly double that time.

We normally send out a letter to all patients who have to wait longer than 12 weeks to advise them of this fact and apologise for their wait. Please accept my apologies that this didn’t reach you. The lack of communication certainly can’t have made your wait any easier.
