"Care of elderly, disabled patients"

About: Royal Berkshire Hospital

My elderly, disabled mother has recently undergone a mastectomy at the hospital. The clinical care she is receiving is excellent and she is most grateful for this. However, getting her to and from the many appointments involved has been and remains stressful and difficult due to the frequency at which she is required to attend (next week at different times in different places on the same day) and the lack of parking spaces at the hospital for those caring for disabled patients (where it can take 30-45 minutes to find a space in competition with all other visitors to the hospital as disabled places are often full). Frail, elderly patients do not have as much resilience as those who are younger and I wonder if insight from them could help to improve the care pathway, to mutual benefit.

Thank you for your feedback regarding the care your mother received in the Royal Berkshire Hospital - we hope she is recovering well. We are sorry you experienced problems parking - the Trust is very aware of the current problems with parking and the negative impact this has on our patients and visitors.

There is currently a review being undertaken to address the current failing equipment, also to free up space to accommodate patients and their visitors. This will entail reconfiguring some of the Trust's car parks to provide further spaces, moving some staff to offsite parking and a new staff parking permit allocation criteria. Hopefully this will reduce the number of staff parking spaces on site, freeing up spaces for patients and the visitors.
