"Recent experience in A+E, short stay and AAU"

About: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital / Accident and emergency

My mum was taken to Basingstoke hospital on the evening of Monday 27th November 2017 and despite it being extremely busy the ambulance staff and the A+E team were so professional and kind I can't praise them enough. I have visited A+E with my elderly father on many occasions in the past and found our experience to be the same They do such an amazing job. Mum stayed in Short stay ward overnight and when we went to visit her the next day we were told that the team were planning to discharge her, I wasn't happy about this because I know my mum, I was really relieved and still am that the team listened to my concerns and decided to keep my mum in. Thank you so much to the consultant who was overseeing her care at that time. Thank you for listening to us and taking our concerns seriously, we are very grateful. Mum was then transferred to AAU overnight and on speaking to the staff the next morning I felt more positive about my mum being in hospital because, each member of staff that I spoke to were so kind and helpful. Mum is now under a consultant and team, they continue to be very thorough. We hear stories about the elderly receiving poor care and their condition not being thoroughly investigated, this certainly isn't the case at HHFT. We are so lucky to have the NHS and we are so lucky to have HHFT ! I work in the trust and I've seen HHFT from a nursing perspective and also from a person on the receiving end and I must say I feel very reassured ! The doctor whom my sister and I spoke to today was very approachable, respectful and honest with good communication skills, our thanks to them also ! A very worrying time for my family but we feel that mum is in the best place !

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback regarding our emergency department. I am always pleased to read heartfelt comments, like yours, on the care, treatment and respect patients and their families receive. I have shared your kind words with the clinical leaders and team, who I am sure, will be delighted and greatly encouraged by them.
