"When will this hospital respect our..."

About: The James Cook University Hospital

I attended the X-ray Department for a Spinal Block and I cannot speak highly enough of the wonderful nursing staff who performed the procedure and took care of me.

I cannot say the same for the reception staff. Once again despite having my appointment letter insisted I gave my address in front of a full waiting room and other patients stood directly behind and to the side of me. There is a sign asking patients to wait behind a barrier but nobody ( including the receptionists) take absolutely no notice of this and don’t enforce it. I refused as I have before to give my address but I was told I had to despite me telling them it was on my letter. I stood my ground because I know I’m fully entitled to refuse after making a complaint a few years ago when I was reassured staff would turn the computer screen round and ask the patient if the address on the screen was correct. About 18 years ago when I was a Senior Nurse I investigated a complaint regarding this when a patient complained about the same thing at South Tees. The outcome was that patients were not expected to state their address in a public area such as Out Patients and X-ray.

Whilst my husband and I sat waiting we heard the address of at least 6 patients. Anyone could quickly establish the home could be empty. Sort it out please.
