"Health visitor"

About: General practices in Greater Glasgow & Clyde

(as a service user),

We had a horrendous time with our health visitor and had to change gp practices as a result. We could never get hold of them, they didn’t help with our sons reflux- we also felt let down by gp practice and had to pay private to get basic meds, also had to pay privately to address his tongue tie. I’m a first time mum and felt so upset and low. We were told by the gp to write off the first six months of your sons life.

We asked to change medications - we were refused even though in tears I said I felt it wasn’t working. The health visitor offered no support at all, when we would ask a question instead of answering they would reply with what do you think? I don’t work in the medical profession that’s why we were asking. It was one of the most distressing and upsetting periods in my life. We were treated as an irritation and dismissed as first time parents. It has taken me a long time to feel ok again.

Dear Confidentialname,

I am really sorry that you have had such a difficult time since the birth of your son and have felt so let down. In order to help us to follow this up further and ensure your feedback is directed to the relevant person, it would be helpful if you could email me with the details of which GP practice and health visiting team your experience relates to. Can you please email me at julie.craik2@ggc.scot.nhs.uk and quote the reference number: 441561.
