"My experience of Leverndale Hospital"

About: Leverndale Hospital / Mental Health

(as other),

Was admitted because I was very down as a result of my mother's death. I felt staff were impatient and overworked so didn't have time to give full attention to detail. Services badly need more funding from government and attitude of some staff and their person to person skills when dealing with patients needs seriously looked at.

Very bad place to be I felt. It was more like a prison than a hospital. Wrong place to be if your main concern is epilepsy like mine was. My seizures increased and memory was poor due to this. However some staff were unaware that my condition was affecting my memory. Very poor knowledge of the condition of epilepsy from about half of the staff. Was made to feel like I was a pest when I was ill by enough staff to make life very difficult.  Also I am distressed about valuables being stolen from a locked cupboard and locked rooms. Thieving a big problem here. Also smoking in toilets in forms a major fire risk and health and safety problem. Very unpleasant for a non smoker as it is banned within hospital for a reason of heath and of safety of others within building.

These are my concerns and personally I want an answer.

Dear hawkcc85,

Thank you for taking the time to feedback your concerns.

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your mother and that your experience of your subsequent care and surroundings caused distress.

You have highlighted a number of issues including staff attitudes and knowledge, smoking and safety of belongings. I have sent your feedback to the service manager for them to reflect on.

In order to look into your individual case it would be helpful if you would contact me with your personal details.

Can you please email me at Julie.craik2@ggc.scot.nhs.uk and quote the reference number 441148.
