"Sunderland Children’s emergency department"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a parent/guardian),

Recently I had the worst day of my life and we took our daughter to a&e as she had been generally unwell for days and had begun to get very worryingly worse that day

As the nurse took one look at her my daughter went blue and floppy as parents this was horrific to witness as she was only 5 weeks old

The nurse ran with her and with a instant she had a full team of staff around her working hard to look after her the staff worked very hard and at the same time helped keep us calm and let us know what was going on although it was frightening they managed  to keep us feeling reassured she would be fine and made sure we knew exactly what was going on

We will always be grateful to the nurses doctors health care assistants  who cared for her and us but the nurse who first took our daughter in will always stick in her minds it’s due to her quick actions that our daughter is fine and also she stayed behind to make us a drink in a time like that it’s the little things that can help

My daughter had to go to the rvi she asked every day on the ward she would be admitted back to if she was back and when our daughter came to f65 she came up to see her it really meant a lot to us

We feel she should be acknowledged for her caring and compassionate attitude towards patients especially when she must see a lot in her working day it was nice for her to take her time to see her

That sounds incredibly frightening and I am so pleased to hear that your daughter is recovering. The team will always go above and beyond to reassure parents at a time like this as it can be extremely distressing to see your child so ill. We all genuinely care about the wellbeing of patients and will often check to see how they are doing even after they have left the department. I am sure the nurse involved will be delighted to hear these comments. Thank you.
