"Terrible Medical Advice"

About: The Neaman Practice

Whilst it's not the easiest to get an appointment here, I understand it's quite a busy practice and actually appreciate that I am given the option to walk in at 8.15am and secure an appointment - no issues with this or the front of house staff.

My problem is with the medical advice provided. I came in with a swollen ankle in June and complained of pain while walking and flexing my foot to certain positions. The symptoms came on after a game of sport, and in my mind it was either muscle or bone related pain. After explaining my symptoms to the GP and them assessing when I was experiencing pain, their conclusion was either a skin infection or I needed to go down the physio route. They recommended to treat me for the skin infection first and proceeded to prescribe me antibiotics. I was a bit baffled by their diagnosis and questioned how I would've gotten a skin infection when there wasn't a break in my skin. Their response was it could be an infection under the skin, but I was still not convinced this could happen without any break in the skin. I did end up purchasing the antibiotics and even took it for a few days.

Luckily I had private health insurance through work and could ring up for a physio appointment. After physio treatment and seeing a foot specialist, turns out it was a stress fracture on my fibula. Obviously they recommended I stop taking the antibiotics immediately.

Frankly, I'm disappointed at how inaccurate the diagnosis was. I've lost complete confidence in the practice and will be registering with another.
