My mother has been a patient of the practice for over twenty seven years. She in now in her hundredth year and lives independently even though she is registered blind and has had several fractures to her spine. My sister and I are her carers and only ask for a repeat prescription as required. Just recently she was due for her annual review. My sister booked an appointment but this was cancelled and she only received a two minute call from one of the doctors. She also requires her annual flu injection but this also was cancelled and we were asked if she could go to the surgery for it!!
I would like to know when is the cut off point when you stop caring for the elderly? Surely a yearly visit is not much to ask to give her reassurance she is doing well and the family unit is still okay with her situation?
A cancerous growth was found by the doctor last year but she has never had a follow up from anyone from he practice.
We as a family appreciate that operations etc are probably out of the question but do we just discard her because she is going on "100"
We as a family would like to hear your views as if she was a member of your family wouldn't you be very disappointed that a home visit was refused?
