"Excellent care and facilities shame we couldn't..."

About: Royal Orthopaedic Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

My daughter came in for a spinal correction, we received excellent care from all the doctors, nurses and staff. She needed to go to the HDU, we were told that she would have to go in with the adults and not to the children and young people's HDU as the unit was full, Fair enough. After spending the night in a small private room we were told there was space for her to go into the CUP HID. It was lovely, a nicely decorated good size room with a kitchen area we could use to make ourselves food and drink, which is important when you have a child here as you don't really want to leave them and a tv while away the long hours. Unfortunately we didn't last long there as the child in the other room was well enough to go back to the ward so we got turfed out back into the small room where you couldn't swing a cat and no tv. The Tv would have been great to take my daughters mind off everthing. The care we received from everyone continued to be great but it's a shame that the facility set up for Children and young people is sat empty and a young person is stuck on the adult ward.

Thank you for your feedback and I appreciate how frustrating it must have been to not be able to use the facilities specifically for young people. The Trust sometimes has to make difficult decisions on the use of our resources and in doing so always remains focussed on safety as the most important factor when making these.

I am pleased to see that you received excellent care, even if this was in an area different to that which you and we would have preferred. I will of course ensure that the departments are made aware of your feedback and I wish your daughter well with her on-going recovery.

If you want to provide any further feedback, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Regards
