I had day case surgery but a few days before this I had an accident which reduced my mobility greatly. After surgery, I was given dry sandwiches to eat with no offer of anything else. I was told I was good to go home but could barely wake up. I was that sleepy, I managed to put on my top inside out and when the nurse spotted it, they said well it’s ok you are only going home. I told them that it was important to me to look respectable in public. My surgeon was not happy that I was not given surgical stockings before my surgery, just normal socks. I was never told how to wear my stockings on discharge, my best friend who is a nurse told me. On being told I could go home - even though I was barely awake, my friend collecting me refused to take me unless they got a wheelchair which they reluctantly did. I feel that I was discharged far too early and not given correct information for aftercare. I feel that my dignity was not thought about in the slightest and my welfare was not considered. I am not a person who needs special attention, but feel that I could have been cared for better.
"Awful experience."
