My Wife and i attended southlands hospital opthalmology dept on 9th November, for a check up, on post operative retinal detachment, which has been ongoing for Three years.

After a Two hour wait, we saw the consultant, who administered eye drops to widen the eye pupils, we were told we would be called back in ten minutes.

we waited nearly an hour , then i decided to enquire at reception why we had to wait so long, by this time my wife was very upset feeling she had been forgotten about, after my complaint, we were then called in.

The consultant clearly did not know the history of the patient, stating that a procedure should be done, that has been carried out Two years ago, and also giving false hope for better eyesight, when again that procedure had also been carried out before, then the consultant decided to look at the notes on the screen.

I did complain to the consultant about waiting times, and the lack of knowledge about my wifes retinal history, which was met by a lecture on how many patients have to be seen, and the state of the NHS as it is today.

We do try and appreciate the stresses put on consultants, but they are dealing with the most important of all our senses which is our sight. to not even know or have the time to read up on notes we feel is disgracefull.
