What I liked

Clean and reasonably attentive.

What could be improved

Took my friend to the A&E after a fall on the ice the Saturday before last. She was told two different things - nurse said that the joint could be broken, but then radiologist took x-rays and said that it didn't look broken. Her arm was put in a sling. However, was told there wasn't a doctor available, so would have to come back in a weeks time, which we did, and were then told that it was broken, but would have to wait a week for a cast! Appointment was made for Thursday with the hand clinic, even though it's a broken elbow - no explanation. Called by the hospital on Monday of this week to say that they had a slot for her - but arrived and had to wait 5 hours, only to have sling taken away and no cast applied as the injury was no longer a simple break... perhaps because it was over a fortnight without any treatment?! Amazingly slack service - trying out the Royal Hampshire County next time methinks! logo

We have made the emergency department staff aware of your feedback but it would help us find out exactly what went wrong and learn from this if your friend could get in touch with Patient Advice and Liaison Service on or 023 8079 8498. We would also really like the opportunity to answer any questions your friend has and if she is a current patient we recommend that she gets in touch with the department to which she has been referred, and ask to speak to one of the senior nursing staff.
