"Extremely long waiting time"

About: Charing Cross Hospital / Accident and emergency

I went to Charing Cross Hospital A&E after I called 111 for advice on really bad abdominal pain and swelling I’ve had for 5 days. I arrived at 5:15pm on a Tuesday evening and there was a few people waiting. I saw the first Dr around 6pm then was told to wait, I waited perhaps like an hour and half and was seen by another Dr in the Urgent Care Unit who referred me to the Accident and Emergency Unit, then I waited 2 hours to be seen by a Nurse who then said I need to get blood tests taken and be seen by a Surgeon. I was called in by the surgeon who saw me, they were really nice and helpful. After seeing the surgeon I was told to wait to get blood tests. I waited till like 12:30am and still no one came to see me, I then went to say I will just leave because I can’t wait any longer as I’ve been there for over 7hours, they then said okay they will quickly take my blood test and I was seen by another surgeon, who was also very kind and said that I will need to come again at 8:30am to get a scan done. I understand that they had an extremely busy evening, however, there was almost no update as to how long I needed to wait or what was really going on, I was able to leave just after 1am, (7.5hours later). When I came back in the morning at 8:30am they told me the Dr didn’t book me in but they will do the scan etc, again I was waiting and waiting and waiting and they kept telling me I was next in line for like 2 hours after the scan to be seen by a Dr. I was only able to leave the hospital around 12:45pm (over 4hours there) after I had to beg to leave as I had to go back to work. The final verdict was that I was just given a prescription for painkillers and told that if it doesn’t get better then I will need to go to my GP who will refer me to somewhere else. If I knew this I would have just gone to Boots and buy painkillers instead of wasting 12hours of my time. I am still in really bad pain and discomfort and now just having to wait and see if painkiller will “sort it out”. The Dr’s I have seen were all very kind however, they are clearly really understaffed and the poor staff look overworked and have to run around to keep up with all the patients and having little time to treat patients.
