What I liked

The consultant who saw me just before surgery (on day of surgery) took time to talk me through why I was being operated on. The procedure was also explained in greater detail.

What could be improved

The consultants should read the records BEFORE speaking to the patient. Three times I have been in this department - once for myself and twice for others. The first time sonsuktant said to my friend all was ok and she could be discharged. If I had not spoken up and told them to double check the records because the radiolgist said results would not be for a while following a biopsy. They then read the notes and said ok, we will send you another appointment! turned out the following week, confirmed she had cancer.

Same with me and family member - told we would be discharged but family member also had cancer. Myself - same problem consultant got confused as they were not sure whether I had scan and mammogram. Explained I had both and Then they read notes and apologised. Went off to see senior consultant and said sorry, no discahrge but surgery. Nothing else explained so shocked that couldn't think of what to say.

Anything else?

Cancer nurse- not very helpful - family member and friend both felt that they could not speak to them openly about their concerns and very often difficult to get hold if- always on a course or on leave. logo
