"Worried Parents were reassured"

About: Borders General Hospital / Accident & Emergency Borders General Hospital / Intensive & Critical Care Borders General Hospital / Paediatrics (Ward 15) Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a parent/guardian),

Our 4 year old started fitting and was rushed in to the BGH as an emergency.

It was an extremely scary position for us to be in as parents seeing our young son fitting and displaying symptoms of meningitis but we felt reassured by the clinicians providing his care and were kept up to date as to the next steps in his care.

This was our sons first visit to hospital and his stay was made enjoyable and not scary due to the compassionate and professional care he received from all the staff and as parents we felt the same.  He was in isolation for 48 hours but the care and interaction from the ward staff and Paediatric Team looking after him did not make this feel scary at all.

Everyone involved in his care from Admission to Discharge including the paramedics, SAS, A&E, ITU, Paediatric Team and Ward staff waiting for him when he was brought into A&E to the staff that were subsequently involved in his care  were professional, friendly, informative, compassionate and reassuring,  we have nothing but thanks and gratitude for you all.

We are so lucky to have such a fantastic hospital with dedicated staff in our Community.

Thank you for telling us your story. It is so helpful to hear such positive feedback. It must have been a very frightening experience for you and your family. Our department (ITU) may have only had a small role to play, but I will take the time to find out who was involved and pass on your thanks.

Thank you very much for taking the time to give us your feedback. It is a worrying time when your child is unwell and I'm pleased to hear that the team in ward 15 made it an enjoyable and not a scary experience for you all. It is great to hear your feedback and I will make sure that it is shared with all the Ward 15 team.

It is really important to us that we receive feedback from patients and families so that we can continue to try and improve the care we provide and ensure we are meeting the needs of our patients and families. I plan to work with our team to look at ways to reduce noise levels overnight. We are also currently reviewing the children's menus and snack choices in ward 15 and if you would like to, we would really appreciate your ideas on how we could improve these menu choices. If you would like to contact me direct, my telephone number is 01896 826 122.

I hope your son is now feeling better and I would like to send him our best wishes.

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your son's first visit to hospital. I am glad that you were pleased with the care we delivered for him.

I have forwarded your comments to the Emergency Department Team who are always pleased to receive feedback on how they are doing. I know they will be pleased to hear your positive comments.

Kind regards.

Thank you for taking the time to respond and I am pleased to hear the menus are under review along with plans to try and reduce the noise at night in the ward. I will certainly contact Danielle to provide feedback on menus.
