I am 41 years of age and I have been suffering from period pain for two years.
I had seen my doctor on several occasions only to get put on the same tablets which I told her does not help. My concern was not the heavy period but continuous bleeding afterwards. I also had smear tests done twice in year as the results were abnormal but later told it happens in lot of women.
I worked full time and was finding it hard to control this problem without any help from the doctor. Recently I was visiting my family in India and on the flight the problem got really worse and I ended up in hospital. The doctors were extremely helpful (unlike in the UK) and diagnosed I had a cyst in the womb and needed treatment. The first thing they said was why it was left for so long and not treated.
A simple operation was done (D&C) which my doctor tells me is not available in the UK. I have been like a new person as everything of it was putting lots of stress.
On my return I went to see my GP and discuss the situation. Instead of being helpful she told me to find another doctor if she did not treat me properly. I am now changing my GP.
I believe that if I had not got the treatment quickly I would have ended up dead.
