"Excellent doctors let down by very poor..."

About: Southover Medical Practice

On the rare opportunities we have been able to get appointments, the doctors themselves have been excellent.

The main issue with this surgery is the difficulty in making an appointment and the attitude of the staff. We are told to call on the morning we wish to see the doctor and every time I have tried to make an advance appointment this has been refused.

Calling at 8.30am is horrendous as the line is always engaged. By the time we manage to get through, we are usually told there are no more appointments for that day and to try again the following day. In addition, as we work, on the rare occasions we are offered an appointment. it is not always possible to drop everything at a moments notice if it is a non-urgent matter. I have tried to enquire about online services, which we believed were up and running, but again, the staff said to come back another time as the service was unavailable.

For more urgent problems I imagine, like many, we will have to resort to using A&E, which is a very sad state of affairs, as they are already pushed to the limit.

For non-urgent matters we just have to keep our fingers crossed and hope things get better, or wait until they are serious enough to warrant emergency care.

The final comment we have is regarding the interrogation by some receptionists. I believe they are not medically trained and it is frustrating and not always comfortable discussing a medical matter with these staff. My mother has been reduced to tears trying to deal with one of the receptionists and commented that she had never experienced such unprofessional and rude service.

Please improve the standard of service at the front desk and this surgery could be less stressful and upsetting to deal with.
