"Misfortune to be admitted on 18/10/17."

About: Northampton General Hospital (Acute) / Accident and emergency

I arrived in extreme pain, now known to be a serious bowel complaint. I could hardly walk or speak. I approached 'the 2nd counter' on the 3 counter reception. I was told immediately I have to wait at counter 1. As there was no-one at the counter I could only look at the nurse questioningly. They called another nurse who rolled their eyes and 'huffed' their way back to take my details.

No empathy or concern shown at any point yet. I was told to go to counter 2 who then asked me to repeat my patient details, despite my obvious pain, and that they had heard what I had just given to counter nurse 1. When the ordeal was over I asked if they had any idea how long the wait should be as my husband was waiting in the car, as there was nowhere immediate to park. Nurse number 2 asked nurse number 1 if I should send my husband home. Nurse number 1 rolled their eyes, and said 'I don't know, she can do what she wants, it is up to her'. If I wasn't doubled over in pain I could have swiped them!

I then waited for 2 hours, was seen by 2 fabulous nurses and a doctor, fed appropriate amounts of painkilling drugs and advised of next steps.

1 week later and my doctor has not received my notes, blood test results nor any discharge papers. My consultant cannot get the X-Ray's or scans taken that evening and these now have to be repeated, now paid for by me.

I would like to be charitable here, but come on guys, if you don't want the job, can't do the job, or can't cope with the pressures then choose to work elsewhere where people in pain and distress are not reliant on you.
