"Shocking rudeness of one paramedic"

About: Weston General Hospital

So after feeling pain in my jaw, but ignoring it i went to sleep, i woke up around two hours later and my face literally double in size especially round my jaw and under the jaw. I showed my sister and she called 111 and they called the paramedic to come. The first ones to come were amazing made me feel much better and not worried as much (although the pain was still bad) they called a out of hours dr and they called an expert and comfired i do probably have the mumps and the dr told me to see my gp Monday, but if it gets worse to called 111 straight away. The sunday morning i went to a.e because it got bigger and the nurse said they would like me to take bloods, but the dr said i have mumps it will just go in time basically advice which is fair enough. At around i think 7? The swelling started on my throat and i found it very hard to swallow, it felt like someone had their hand pn my throat. The paramedis came and were amazing, but after rushing me to hospital i was still finding it hard to swollow and i was so worried it was going to get tighter and tighter and spread. my face and throat was obviously swollen to any normal head size,so my phone was turned off and i used the black screen to reflect on my face so i could make sure it didnt look like it got any bigger or was spreading and getting more swollen, i couldnt swollow it just felt not going down without a strong effort, so this is where i was shocked and embarrassed and just insulted and humiliated infront of everyone one paramedic who was speaking to the paramedic that came to take me to the hospital, and said and i qoute "you are in ae and you are taking selfies!" then when they walked off then said to someone else "lets take a selfie" trying to mock me basically. They said this in a very aggressive hateful way. After that i didnt check my neck again, i was close to walking out and i went red. Im 21 and never been in an ambulance before, i dont use the gps atall and i use it once because im in obvs need and i was laughted at and mocked. For a giy that suffers anxiety this one person made me change my tone and i wanted to walk out, but the gp gave me anti botics and ibruphine, and then gave me prescriptions to get more antibiotics. One nurse made me feel much better and was happy and smiling and made sure i had everything before i left and even helped me find the x-ray ( they wanted to take an x-ray of me aswell) the nurse was a real star and a credit to the nhs and all the drs and nurses at that. But i still cant believe, i havent told anyone about this of yet. But now im going to refuse to go back to ae due to the embarrassment that paramedic inflicted on me. Even if my conditions worsen.

Many thanks for taking the time and trouble to give us your feedback and we're pleased to hear that you had good care from our nurses and the majority of the paramedics. We're very sorry that you were left feeling embarrassed by one individual, unfortunately we are unable to look into this incident for you as the paramedics are not actually employed by us here at the hospital, but by South Western Ambulance Service. If you would like them to investigate this incident further, you can contact them at https://www.swast.nhs.uk/get-in-touch.htm.

We hope you are making a good recovery - mumps can be a very unpleasant and painful illness!
