My son was born 5 weeks premature by emergency c section 2 years ago. I’ve never had the chance to praise the support I had while in hospital which enabled me to bf.
When I came across care opinion I decided to take the opportunity to thank staff. I was pretty determined to succeed with breastfeeding despite my sons premiturity and the c section and felt appropriately encourage.
The midwife margaret who was in theatre with me was fab in helping me initially. The breastfeeding support team on the wards - Anne and Holly in particular were brilliant and put up with me for a week! Between syringe feeding, expressing and then fully breastfeeding they were great. I did have to keep asking for help and often wait hours as they were over stretched but their care was fantastic.
My son and I left hospital after a week and I breastfed him fully for 13months. I also accessed the hospital breastfeeding team for advice twice in the first 3 months and again the support was fantastic. It was very timely at that stage too. The team gave excellent evidence based advice to both me and my GP.
Thank you to everyone - I feel very proud of my achievement which I wouldn’t have managed without the support.
