My mother was in Gartnavel General with a broken wrist and took a chest infection.
I was in to see her and she was very drowsy owing to the antibiotics kicking in.
Two days later in the morning I phoned to ask about her progress to which I was told that she had pulled out the intravenous line and her veins were shutting down and she could not swallow.
I asked if she would survive to which I was told probably not.
In the afternoon we went to see her and on entering ward 3C the nurse told us she was making good progress and they hoped she would be able to go home in a week or two.
When I told her that we were informed earlier that morning that she was on the way out the colour drained from the nurses face and informed us that that was a lady in the next cubicle with a similar name which I never found out what it was.
As you can imagine we were taken aback at this and how this occurrence could have happened in the first place.
They were full of apologies but this kind of thing cannot be allowed to happen again
