Incredibly rude and unwelcoming staff - I have just moved to the Kirkstall area so I decided to sign up to the practice as it was closest to my new home. I picked up an application form the day before and brought it in the next morning before setting off to work. Once entering the practice I spoke to one of the receptionists and handed them my application. They proceeded to read through it quietly, at which point they told me that I had incorrectly marked my ethnicity. I am half Mauritian and half English so I marked the 'mixed race - African/English' box. Mauritius is a very small country in the continent of Africa. However They believed it wasn't and insisted that I was wrong. I felt completely disrespected and disgusted by their attempt to educate me on my own heritage, yet I didn't express this, and maintained my composure. I hadn't brought a copy of my tenancy agreement so I said I'd bring it in tomorrow and proceeded to leave. I was in a rush to get to work so I didn't notice the disabled button to open the main exit door. Consequently I attempted to open the door the conventional way (using the handle), at which point the other receptionist lent over the main desk and told me to press the button (which was about six feet in front of the door, around a corner), I pressed the button after which point the same receptionist exclaimed "it's really quite obvious!". How incredibly patronising and insulting. It was my mistake, but obviously I was in a hurry as I didn't want to be late for work and I didn't see the button (which wasn't even on the same wall as the door) but I do not expect to be treat so inappropriately and disrespectfully. I have never experienced such a poor level of customer service at any medical practice before. I will not be returning to Abbey Grange and I would not recommend the practice to anyone else. Hopefully these two poorly trained and unprofessional individuals do not reflect the entirety of the staff there. I find the giant banner outside claiming "New patients welcome" completely ironic... A more accurate statement would be... Prepare to be unnecessarily patronised and disrespected at your own risk. Considering it's a doctor's surgery, you would think they would have more of a sensitive and considerate attitude, instead of a pompous one.
