"Ward 46 and the colorectal team are the tops"

About: The Royal Victoria Infirmary

I was admitted to Ward 46 in June for an ileostomy operation which was successful in itself. The staff on Ward 46 were friendly, compassionate, caring and sympathetic - I could not have wished for a better team. Over a period of 3 months the osteomy failed to settle sufficiently and I was readmitted twice. By this tme my bowels had recovered sufficiently to reverse the ileostomy. Thie surgeons involved in both operations were excellent and advised me about any options available.

After the second operation I was transferred to another ward for a few days before going home, but unfortunately they couldn’t live up to Ward 46 standards although they were very good.

As to food (institutional mass catering), I stated an intolerance to onions which was never catered for. Not was there a diet suited directly to ileostomy patients. This had to be supplemented by additional foods arranged by the excellent nutrition team.

Finally I cannot give enough praise to The entire stoma Nurse team for their friendly sympathetic care.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback on NHS Choices rating our Surgical Services with 5 stars. We are delighted to hear your stay on Ward 46 was such a positive experience, as the Trust aims to place every individual at the heart of what we do. There is a whole team working together to ensure each individual patients care needs are met and if any complications arise, they can be dealt with effectively.

Please accept our apologies with regards to the catering, any special dietary requirements would always involve the nutrition team to ensure the needs are met, however if you would like to discuss this further please do not hesitate to get in touch by contacting the Patient Relations Department, who will be able to investigate your particular case and provide a more comprehensive response.

It is a pleasure to receive such positive comments from patients, your kind words are most appreciated and will be shared with all the staff involved in caring for you.
