my daughter and her sick old son who was referred by his GP with written notice to the paediatric department at Stoke Manderville Hospital.
On arriving at the department after waiting some 30mins my daughter was advised that she had to book in at the A&E department. My daughter pointed out that there was a long queue (her son had been ill for 2 weeks whilst under the care of the GP), and she was concerned about putting her son through further unnecessary stress.
After booking in My Daughter returned to the Paedaitric Unit and after further waiting her son was finally seen by a Doctor. Her son was and still is in severe pain. He was given antibiotics and advised to go to the pharmacy to collect the medication. On arriving at the Pharmacy my daughter was advised that they did not have all the necessary medications and that she would have to go to the other pharmacy in the hospital to collect the rest of the medication.
She and her son were so stressed by this time it was coming up to 6hours that the two of them had been sent from pillar to post just to get a very sick child seen by medics. Her son was exhausted and she could not leave him to get food or drink and had no pain relief not expecting to be held up for such a length of time.
A few days there was no improvement and my daughter returned to the paediatric dept. her son was no better. They were going to admit him but changed their mind and said they would be doing a scan and to return at 10am the next day.
My daughter returned home with a very distressed son who was crying uncontrollably by now because he was still in pain and he expected to get some positive help.My daughter was advised that the 'scanning staff' do not work through the night.
I am lost for words and totally disgusted, how long does it take to help a sick child in pain. How long will he have to wait before we see any positive results. Oh and the car park charges have bee phenomenal. No clear system for children, no emergency scanning facility?? inefficient medication stocks, waiting times beyond belief.
"How long will he have to wait?"
