"Complicated AAA needing extensive surgery"

My Husband was admitted on the 25/9/17 for a very complicated Abdominal Aortic Aneurism. What an amazing surgeon and Team. Working with a second Surgeon, during an exceedingly long surgery they successfully repaired the Aneurism something we feared may not have been possible due to the severity of the complications. Following Surgery the Professor came to check on Barry before going home, which to us as a family showed total dedication.

The Anaesthetist, because of Barry's chest complaint gently persuaded him to also have an Epidural to afford pain relief. Again a very well thought out procedure by the Anaesthetist, which I'm sure prevented any post surgery complications with Barry's lungs.

From theatre he was placed on POCCU something we hadn't heard of. However the level of nursing care was astounding. If a monitor bleeped two or three staff were immediately at Barry's bedside. His designated nurse never left his bed and was there to allay our fears and answer any questions. I really cannot Thank the Surgical Team or nursing staff enough. Three days later saw Barry on HDU. Again where staff just couldn't do enough for him and allowed him with a physiotherapist, at his request to try to walk to the toilet that day.

All the staff also showed much concern for the welfare of our son and myself. This had been for me the darkest period of my life having been together for 51years but a time made so much easier by the care compassion and consideration of the staff at the Royal Liverpool Hospital. From our first appointment with Professor Fisher, staff went out of their way to try to reassure us. We knew the operation held huge risks, but unfortunately there was no alternative and for every negative Prof Fisher gave us a positive in reassurance. As a hospital you should be proud in our opinion to say you employ the best Vascular Surgeon and staff available.
