I had my last session of counselling today, for some reason 6 seems to be the magic number as six sessions of counselling are offered. I am now waiting for further asperger specific counselling, whilst I'm looking forward to having this I am disappointed that there will be a gap between the two. it would have been better to have continuity in a seamless move from one to the other.
I have found the general counselling very useful as it has made me talk about myself in a confidential setting and discuss my issues and to look at the context. It has been very therapeutic. The counsellor was a very good listener, we got on well. I thought the text reminders for appointments was a very good prompt, I am very organised but I do appreciate that people undergoing counselling can be going through a very difficult time, for them the text reminder would be excellent.
The one issue that could be made clearer was that at the beginning I was led to believe the counselling I needed could only be offered on a specific day, this made it a bit awkward due to work commitments. However, I discovered that it was offered on a specific day in one location, I could have the counselling on a day that was more suitable if I was prepared to go to another location, which I was. Once this made clear it was fine.
