About: Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital

I called 111. Never done this before. Very frightened. Paramedic wonderful. Took me to Cramlington in the car. Luckily I only began projectile vomiting in the hospital. Waiting in A and E felt like a long time, but I suppose as anyone can turn up, it's difficult. I was there tea time and after a number of tests, and great pain killers, I was delivered to the ward at about 1am

I had a room to myself. Beautiful and clean. I was retching and miserable physically but the nurses were wonderful. The next morning the surgeon came round, told me what was going on, gave me options, and said I can operate in a couple of hours. And that's what happened. What a relief. The staff were attentive, busy but always had time. The only criticism I have, is not not to do with care. It is the discharge from being told you can go home. All day. Very bad that you are waiting on prescriptions because there is no pharmacy in the hospital.Elderly man was getting visibly upset and stressed as he'd waited all day. That's not on, after excellent care given by the doctors and nurses. I think it needs to be reviewed urgently towards patient comfort.Other than that, from my point of view, it's probably the best experience I've ever had in hospital, though I haven't been in many.

Dear Catherine Campbell,

So sorry that you needed to use our services recently but I am pleased that you were well looked after both in Accident and Emergency and on our wards. I do hope you are feeling much better following surgery and you’re recovering well at home. We understand how frightening it can be when you’re not feeling well so it is reassuring to know our staff were both informative and kind to you.

I know the team who took care of you will be thrilled to read your comments. We will also take into account your comments relating to our discharge procedure to make sure we learn from this in the future.

I will pass your comments about the cleanliness of the ward over to our estates team who will be happy to receive such nice feedback.

Best wishes,

Jan
