"Mixed experience but overall it was better than..."

About: Wexham Park Hospital / Maternity

My labour started around 10pm 29/09/2017, my husband could not see me in pain and called around 3am to assessment center.

We felt the person receiving the call not bein g sympathatic initially, but later on they explained us well. Next day, my husband again called the assessment center, the midwife was very helpful and called us to hospital. It was 2 cm opened and I was on terrible pain. I don't know why they asked to go home and come again. But still, my husband and me decided to go home so that we can be more comfortable and walk around. But, I could not bear the pain and we had to be back straight away within an hour. I guess midwife could have made better decision rather than sending me home leaving on pain. It was 4 cm as I was examined quite quick. I was declared to be on category to get transferred in labour ward but the most difficult time started thereafter. No one was coming to receive us. I waited for 2 hours. I was then sent out of assessment room and asked to sit on a chair as there was another patient coming. I waited another 45 minutes crying with my husband. Finally, i was transferred to labour ward. I was received by a midwife. OMG they took half of my pain away. The midwife involved my husband and me for every little decision. They are the asset of Wexham. The midwife in-charge on that night was also really helpful and got really good sense of humor. I feel lucky to have such people during my delivery. I was with 9cm opened by next day at 8 am. I was so worried, we even asked who is coming as me and my husband were really comfortable with the first midwife. We were then approached by another midwife, who we initially felt little bossy, and was quite firm. We needed friendly people at that time. But, may be it was their nature, we got familiar with this midwife as well. I could not push for 2 hours, and the doctor got involved. The doctor was like an angel for us. They were very sensitive. Finally, the Doctor pulled out my baby boy within 9 minutes of final effort. They are another asset of Wexham. The student midwife was also the one to be credited. We got transferred to ward 22 thereafter. I was happy with everyone got involved but there was little issue observed in hand over. I was told by doctor that i can get discharged after my 2pm antibiotics. But midwife later on explained us that last antibiotics was at 10pm. My husband is trained for medication and he was observing everything. They confronted politely, and midwife showed him MAR chart and told they got the evidence. My husband did not stop and asked for doctor again. Finally, he was declared to be right and the midwife (did not apologise) told he was right. Everything got completed at around 2:30 pm but we had to wait until 6:30 pm as doctor said the baby can get his BCG vaccination done. But midwife allocated to me was not trained for BCG vaccination according to them and had wait for others to be free.

Overall, it was good.
