Day visit to Pagham for removal of tumour behind left ear. Not knowing what to expect, I was impressed and pleasantly surprised by the quality of treatment and efficient but caring staff, from reception through to recovery.
The airy and spacious Treatment Centre was better than I had imagined it might be; the staff pleasant and keeping me informed, from the initial discussion with the surgeon to the patient empathy evident throughout such a busy ward. Having a local anaesthetic and being fully conscious throughout the operation, I was aware of a good vibe among staff in the theatre and it was - for me anyway - interesting to hear the surgeon describe parts of the procedure to a junior who was present. I felt i knew exactly what was going on at all times and never felt just 'another patient' passing through the system.
I found the appointment procedure worked well, as did the initial consultancy, and was pleasantly surprised by the immediate written follow-ups, keeping me and my GP informed at all times.
Fortunately, I have had very little reason to visit hospitals over (far too) many years but this experience confirmed how fortunate we are in the UK to have the NHS.
"Excellent from start to finish"
