"Lack of good care due to being on wrong ward...."

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford)

I was put on a different ward than i usually go which is Neurology.,

On AMU the staff were nice but the sister was very rude to me and my carer. I think this is because neurology patients have specific issues that arent understood on AMU.

My carer made a complaint to the site management team who were briliiant and had me moved to ward as there were no neurology beds. The staff were very professional and understanding, until a ward doctor there decided to change my neurologists plan and from there on in, the new shift that came on under them treated me badly. The auxilaries and nurses were good but the sister that came on duty under that doctor was frankly like a brickwall. The site manager had told me i could call onthem at any time. I had asked theee times to see them during that time,. I was told 'later' but no one came. I asked to see Chaplaincy but they didnt come, I beleive they were never asked. At tea time I was told 'an amubulane has been booked get ready you are going home'. I said how can I just go like that, my neurologist wanted me to stay . I was told ''well our doctor wants you to go'. I told them but my carer is now on the way to visit me. I was told 'well ring and put them off then, the ambulance is coming'. I said my carer is driving I cant. No care plan had been set up. No one had even contactd the community care to say I was coming home. I hadnt been able to tell my carer i was going home. So she hadnt brought coat shoes socks. No one had rung her to even ask ifanyone be at home. I had no key.

When my carer arrived she was so disgusted she packed my stuff and took me home. I feel that this was very poor practice and in fact I arrived home with a canula in my arm, and severe diaorrhea. I think this was all due to the fact that the ward doctor knew little about neurology, I also have PTSD and when I said to them are you treating me differently because of this they said Thats Irrelevant. My PTSD is not irrevent. My Neurologist had said I cud have some bags of fluid as it is known to help my condition and may have benefitted me especially with long journey home. The ward Doctor said 'I will allow one bag of fluid if you will go after'. Their manner was brutish, uncaring. When I told the sister I was upset by how they were handling things, they said 'may be its your perception thats to blame'. I found this so disgusting and upsetting using my PTSD that way so I said then its best I say no more to any of them. The nurse who had looked after me all day came in afterwards and hugged me and said it was a shame. I agree. it was shameful. I arrived home barefoot, cold, wet andtook my own canula out. I know I was wrong to leave before they offically dischargd me but we received a call from the ward half an hour aftr we left saying come back so we can take out the canula and send you home. So as they were sending me out in half an hour anyway, we just went as I was so very upset. My neurologist would be too.
