"Pre Op and Post Op Process Needs Massive..."

About: Moorfields Eye Hospital (City Road Campus)

I've been to Moorfields before when I had shingles in my eyes. The appointment was for me to arrive in the morning and just wait. Well I waited almost 6 hours and I was the last one left before the receptionist just closed shop and went home leaving me searching around for a doctor . Needless to say, they had just 'forgotten' I was there so I lost my temper and insisted someone examine me . Sometimes you have to get angry to urge people to do things properly and this was that instance. The doctor was pretty shaken by my attitude but completed the examination.

The 2nd poor patient experience was last Friday 29th Sept 'Sedgwick Ward' where all the patients due for cataract surgery made an effort to arrive on time but the nurses hadn't (because of traffic issues). Pretty poor excuse imho and this mean't a very chaotic disorganised panic stricken day for everyone. Nurses dashing around doing last minute checks , getting tired and frustrated, phones continually ringing , important blood sugar checks being left at the last minute before surgery. Poor communication post op and being left in limbo while the nurses prioritize their attention to new arrivals. You end up thinking to yourself 'this is absolute chaos' and this is supposed to be a better run hospital than most. I won't bore you with all the issues as I've sent a large list with suggestions to resolve to their PALS dept. Hopefully the follow-up cataract operation on the other eye will be better organised but I seriously doubt it.

I'm sorry you have had a less than satisfactory experience with Moorfields. I understand that PALS have received your suggestions and the Matron for surgical services is addressing the issues you have raised.
