About: Nuffield Health, Bristol Hospital (Chesterfield)

Admitted 5pm on a Tuesday. Greeted by name at reception and on exiting lift on first floor. Taken to private room.

impeccable.... quickly followed by hostess asking what i wanted to eat/drink after surgery. Triage nurse went through pre op checks for cataract surgery, found my blood sugar was sky high and pumped 2 litres of water into me to get it down. Surgeon arrived talked through pros cons and consent and then a discussion with anesthetist. Extra eye drops ordered to dilate pupil sufficiently for surgery. Surgery went very well, and I was hardly sat back in my room when my chicken sandwich and coffee arrived. fAter 20 minutes I was given detailed verbal and wriiten instructions, eyedrops etc and was allowerd to go home at 9pm.

Four days on, the eye is recovering more and more each day. For anyone considering cataract surgery i would say the 1st eye op which was done on the NHS sort of opens your eyes, rather like opening a window ( sorry about the pun!) to the possibilities of what could be achieved with a second op. The 2nd eye was done ,privately 4 months later and it is like having the patio doors flung wide open. Contrast, brightness, colours and distance vision are just sensational with a standad IOL in both eyes.

The treatment I had was second to none in every respect. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hospital and this type of surgery to anyone.
