"Eye casualty"

About: Ysbyty Gwynedd / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

My GP referred me, made a phone call and got me an appointment. Arrived 10 minutes early and told to take a seat. Sat for nearly an hour observing  what I felt was a total lack of organisation. Incoming calls being ignored, people waiting for tests, who seemed to have been forgotten, a person whose blood results had been lost. None of this seemed to be down to high numbers of patients. Almost an hour after my appointment time I was called for an eye test and drops in my eyes. Back to the waiting room, then called 5 minutes later to have my eyes scanned. Then back to the waiting room again five minutes later to wait and see a doctor. 1 hour later, still waiting. A group of 4 youngsters complaining loudly that they have been there for two hours. The person on reception left, and half an hour later, nurses were also leaving.

2 hours and ten minutes after my initial appointment time a Doctor makes an appearance and two patients start complaining to them. I then decide enough is enough and try to give the doctor my name so that they know I am leaving. The doctor points me to a man who has suddenly emerged from an office ( first time I have seen him in the two and a half hours I have been there ). I presume that he is the Department Manager, and turn to speak, but he quickly looks away, so I gave up and left.

I have been a patient at the eye clinic for years, and i have always found it to be very badly organised, but today I thought it was the ultimate disaster day.
