Attended a diabetic review with my autistic son, who is well known by most of the staff, and in general they have been great with him.
However on this occasion the visit was a waste of time, the answers we gave could have been given over the phone, and saved us a journey.
Because his regular staff were not there ( because they changed the appointment day) all his routines were in turmoil.
There was no one who was qualified to even do a finger prick to test the Hbc1 readings!
Other small details which mean nothing to the ordinary patient, mean a lot to someone with
autism, and therefore they couldn't be provided.
A further appointment has to be made at the Doctors surgery instead.
Having already had a survey at this hospital about care for special needs patients, in this case the needs have been totally neglected.
