"sonographer and staff rude"

About: Rochdale Infirmary / Maternity Royal Oldham Hospital / Maternity

I went for my 12 week scan with my husband. Like any other couple, we were really exited and could not wait to see how much the baby had grown etc since our last miscarriage this was even more special.

When i came into the scanning room, sonographer asked me to lie down and started the scan. I asked a couple of questions to which the sonographer replied with very short abrupt answers which didnt help answer my questions. The sonographer then showed us the baby (moved the screen) all i managed to say was " wow the baby has grown loads since the last scan " and they turned the screen away... it hadnt even been 10 seconds that they showed the baby to us?...

The sonographer didn't advise how many weeks I am nor did they care to tell me what i can do to get a scan picture.

I asked myself and the sonographer told me to print a ticket and go to the next room. Once we went to the next room - it turned out they had all gone home for the day?.. why would they go home for the day and leave random patients baby pics around the room ?? data protection?...

I went for a scan without seeing the baby properly and without a picture. The sonographer although kept their manners a little did not seem to understand it is an important moment for most for your first scan and seemed unconcerned about it.

The sonographer even asked me to empty my bladder a little my husband had popped to the loo at the same time and when i returned they didnt even care to ask if i wanted to wait for him kept forcing me back on the table so they can go home. When I told reception the staff who provide pictures arent there the sonographer seemed so annoyed that they had to walk a couple of steps to see if anyone was inside..

Husband and I went home rather upset without a baby pic

Utter useless people and staff with no manners

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I expect that you must have been very nervous about the scan since previously experiencing a miscarriage. I am sorry that you found the sonographer to be have 'no manners' at what should have been a positive experience. I have forwarded your feedback to the sonographer manager Zoe Mottram at Rochdale Infirmary. I am more than happy to look into your concerns further, please email me directly at:
